AuroraFlex™ TPE Compounds offer a variety of physical properties required for flexible and soft-touch applications, like full- and half-face masks. These materials have many of the same properties as thermoset rubbers but can be molded and extruded using conventional thermoplastic processing equipment.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Today’s social and business climate is unprecedented, with the need for personal protective equipment (PPE) at a peak in many industries. Aurora Plastics recognizes these trends and is responding with creative material solutions to meet the demand. We provide specialty comfort soft materials that help full- and half-face mask manufacturers improve durability and comfort.

AuroraFlex™ flexible PVC is a cost-effective alternative to our thermoplastic elastomers. These compounds provide flexible PVC from 35A to 95A Shore A durometer* to semi-rigid, with specific gravities ranging from 1.15 to 1.65. We use various types of compound additives to promote plasticity and flexibility to meet specific needs, such as renewable non-phthalate, improved low temperature tolerance and biocides. When you’re looking for a compound that offers high-abrasion resistance and excellent processing properties, AuroraFlex SL is designed to produce longer-lasting materials, with no tearing.

Our AuroraFlex SBS and SEBS compounds utilize multiple TPE/TPR chemistries to deliver high-performance properties, including durability and easy processing. These materials are similar to vulcanized rubber, but can be molded and extruded using conventional thermoplastic process equipment. This offers benefits over vulcanized, thermoset rubbers, which are processed using a slower and more costly curing process. The majority of our TPR formulations are 100% recyclable and are RoHS compliant.

AuroraFlex TPE compounds offer a variety of physical properties required for flexible and soft-touch applications, like full- and half-face masks. These materials have many of the same properties as thermoset rubbers but can be molded and extruded using conventional thermoplastic processing equipment. Thermoplastic processing reduces time and cost for high-volume manufacturing while increasing the recyclability of materials.

When manufacturing face masks, shields, and straps, AuroraFlex TPE Compounds –

  • have optimized melt flow properties to adequately fill the thin walls required in face seal designs
  • are highly resilient, eliminating any part deformation or warpage as parts are removed from the mold core
  • possess a low coefficient of friction for a desirable surface feel and a comfortable face seal
  • are available in different appearances, including clear, translucent, and colors
  • can be printed on with ink or marked by laser
  • are non-toxic, odorless, and free of latex, phthalates, heavy metals
  • are formulated with FDA-listed raw materials, and comply with CA Prop. 65, RoHS, CONEG, REACH SVHC, and other regulations

AuroraFlex TPE Compounds can be injection molded and we have extrusion grades specifically designed for straps. Many materials are easily printable for customization.

AuroraGuard™ TPEs are a class of copolymers or a physical mix of polymers (usually a plastic and a rubber) that consist of materials with both thermoplastic and elastomeric properties. While most elastomers are thermosets, thermoplastics are in contrast relatively easy to use in manufacturing, for example, by injection molding. They also can be recycled! These polymers resemble elastomers in that they are highly resilient and can be repeatedly stretched to at least twice their initial length with full rapid recovery, but are true thermoplastics and thus do not require curing or vulcanization as most rubbers.

AuroraGuard TPOs are multiphase compositions in which one phase consists of a material that is hard at room temperature and fluid when heated, and the other phase consists of an elastomeric material that is soft and rubberlike at room temperature. We offer both halogenated and non-halogenated TPO based materials.

AuroraTec™ interior grade compounds provide a wide processing window and demonstrate resistance to electrical failure far surpassing metal conduits under similar conditions of heat exposure due to their lower thermal conductivity. Designed for the extrusion process, they are available in pellet or powder form in a wide range of colors. AuroraTec RPVC can be either clear or opaque. opaque PVC has additives, such as fillers and pigments to block transparency and impart a specific color. Clear rigid PVC is the same compound, just without the fillers and pigments.

AuroraTec TPU composites exhibit high impact strength, toughness and heat resistant properties. These compounds are available in powder or pellet form in various colors.

Aurora Plastics has decades of technical knowledge that brings innovation and the most consistent quality products in the market. Let us show you how our polymer solutions are helping our customers solve problems, introduce new products and realize growth opportunities.

* NOTE: Durometer hardness is measured with a calibrated durometer using the Shore Type-A scale in a room of consistent temperature. The indenter is inserted for 15 seconds to determine if it passes the ASTM D2240-Durometer Hardness test for the desired durometer.
