Aurora Material Solutions specialty compounds for Marine, Boats, Harbor, Marina, Pier applications

Marine

Aurora Material Solutions offers a complete line of products for demanding marine applications, including rigid PVC compounds, flexible compounds and our premium pellet capstock.

The AuroraShield™ line of PVC/acrylic alloy capstocks are highly-weatherable, pelletized compounds designed for exterior applications such as fencing, siding and sea walls. AuroraShield PVC/acrylic alloys exhibit excellent weathering stability and resistance to water whitening. These compounds combine the easy processability of rigid PVC and the superior weatherability of acrylic. These highly durable, pelletized capstock compounds are ideal for darker colors and can be applied thinner than standard PVC capstocks. Thinner capstock requires less material, making our AuroraShield PVC/acrylic capstock a high-performance, economical solution for exterior applications.

For applications requiring flexibility, we offer AuroraFlex™ compounds.

  • AuroraFlex flexible PVC is a cost-effective alternative to our thermoplastic elastomers. These compounds provide flexible PVC from 35A to 95A Shore A durometer* to semi-rigid, with specific gravities ranging from 1.15 to 1.65. We use various types of compound additives to promote plasticity and flexibility to meet specific needs, such as renewable non-phthalate, improved low temperature tolerance and biocides. When you’re looking for a compound that offers high-abrasion resistance and excellent processing properties, AuroraFlex SL is designed to produce longer-lasting materials, with no tearing.
  • AuroraFlex SBS and SEBS compounds utilize multiple TPE/TPR chemistries to impart high-performance properties for durability and easy processing. TPE options are available as low as 10A* up to 50D durometer hardness. Some of our TPEs are offered in clear, as well as oil free grades. These materials have many of the same properties as vulcanized rubber, but can be molded and extruded using conventional thermoplastic process equipment. Thermoplastic processing provides advantages over vulcanized, thermoset rubbers which are processed using a slower and more costly curing process. Most of our TPR formulations are 100% recyclable and are RoHS compliant.

AuroraTec™ compounds deliver excellent weatherability.

  • AuroraTec exterior weatherable rigid PVC compounds meet stringent standards for outdoor performance and are highly impact resistant. These compounds are available in powder or pellet form in various colors for application flexibility. AuroraTec RPVC can be either clear or opaque. opaque PVC has additives, such as fillers and pigments to block transparency and impart a specific color. Clear rigid PVC is the same compound, just without the fillers and pigments.
  • AuroraTec PC/PBT (polycarbonate/polybutylene terephthalate) compounds are made from alloys of amorphous polycarbonate and the semi-crystalline polybutylene terephthalate resin. They offer excellent chemical resistance, and high impact and heat resistance, as well as outstanding aesthetic and processability characteristics. AuroraTec PC/PBT has Impact-modified grades that can provide a high level of impact strength at low temperatures. Impact-modified AuroraTec PC/PBT grades can provide a high level of impact strength at low temperature. There are also flame-retardant grades (both non-halogenated and brominated), glass filled grades, and UV (ultra-violet) stabilized grades. They are ideal for a variety of marine applications.
  • With AuroraTec PVC composites, enhanced dimensional stability is achieved. At more than twice the tensile or flexural modulus of typical PVC substrates, higher performance-engineered profiles are possible. Combined with a lower coefficient of expansion, you also get significantly less contraction or expansion due to temperature fluctuations. They can be used as stand-alone compounds or as structural substrates, along with capstock, in two-part systems for applications that require high weatherability.

Auroralite rigid PVC cellular foam includes powder compounds that generate lightweight, low-density profiles ideal for interior/exterior trim work, windows, garage doors, weather seals, decking, railing, slat wall and much more. These PVC cellular foam extrusion grade compounds can be used as a lightweight wood replacement that can be easily cut, routed and shaped just like real wood, with the added benefit of being rot, warp and crack resistant. Because of its reduced density (lighter weight), processors are able to make more parts with less compound.

Our experienced R&D team will work with you to develop a formulation that will meet your specific application needs. We are consistently recognized as best in class for our color development and production repeatability.

* NOTE: Durometer hardness is measured with a calibrated durometer using the Shore Type-A scale in a room of consistent temperature. The indenter is inserted for 15 seconds to determine if it passes the ASTM D2240-Durometer Hardness test for the desired durometer.
