Deck & Rail

Aurora Plastics offers an exceptionally strong and durable line of compounds for decking and railing applications.

  • AuroraTec™ exterior weatherable rigid PVC compounds meet AAMA (American Architectural Manufacturers Association) standards for outdoor performance and are highly impact resistant. These compounds are available in powder or pellet form in various colors for decking applications.  AuroraTec RPVC can be either clear or opaque. opaque PVC has additives, such as fillers and pigments to block transparency and impart a specific color. Clear rigid PVC is the same compound, just without the fillers and pigments.
  • With AuroraTec PVC composites, enhanced dimensional stability is achieved. At more than twice the tensile or flexural modulus of typical PVC substrates, higher performance-engineered profiles are possible. Combined with a lower coefficient of expansion, you also get significantly less contraction or expansion due to temperature fluctuations. They can be used as stand-alone compounds or as structural substrates, along with capstock, in two-part systems for applications that require high weatherability.
  • AuroraShield™ capstocks are highly-weatherable, pelletized compounds designed for exterior applications. AuroraShield PVC/Acrylic alloys exhibit excellent weathering stability and resistance to water whitening. These compounds also combine the easy processability of rigid PVC and the superior weatherability of acrylic. AuroraShield capstocks are ideal for darker colors and can be applied thinner than standard PVC capstocks. A thinner capstock requires less material, making AuroraShield a high-performance economical solution for exterior applications.
  • AuroraShield ASA (acrylonitrile styrene acrylic) is an amorphous resin designed to provide outstanding weather resistance. Similar to acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) in mechanical properties, ASA provides excellent ultraviolet (UV), water whitening and stress crack resistance. These grades exhibit low heat build-up, good flow, good aesthetics, impact strength, toughness, flame retardancy, dark color weatherability and a wide range of viscosities. This series also has recyclable and environmental-friendly products. It can be processed using compounding.
  • Our Auroralite cellular foam RPVC products make an excellent wood replacement, combining the maintenance-free features of vinyl with the matte finish look of painted wood. They allow easy nailing and screwing, while providing mildew resistance, rot resistance and weight reduction properties. These compounds are highly recommended for decking applications.
  • AuroraGuard™ CPVC Compounds are ideal in applications that require low smoke, high-heat performance. As a result, it is ideal for a variety of building and construction applications that require high temperature and/or flame performance and smoke ratings, such as decks and rails.
  • AuroraFlex™ flexible PVC is a cost-effective alternative to our thermoplastic elastomers. These compounds provide flexible PVC from 35A to 95A Shore A durometer* to semi-rigid, with specific gravities ranging from 1.15 to 1.65. We use various types of compound additives to promote plasticity and flexibility to meet specific needs, such as renewable non-phthalate, improved low temperature tolerance and biocides. When you’re looking for a compound that offers high-abrasion resistance and excellent processing properties, AuroraFlex SL is designed to produce longer-lasting materials, with no tearing.

Our compounds are developed by a professional R&D staff with decades of formulating experience. Our team will work with you to determine the exact formulation to best meets your needs.

* NOTE: Durometer hardness is measured with a calibrated durometer using the Shore Type-A scale in a room of consistent temperature. The indenter is inserted for 15 seconds to determine if it passes the ASTM D2240-Durometer Hardness test for the desired durometer.
