Consumer

Aurora Plastics is a premier custom compound supplier to the consumer market. We offer one of the industry’s largest product portfolios, including premium pellet capstocks, rigid and flexible PBT, PVC, TPO, TPE, CPE, SBS, SEBS, cellular foam and purge compounds.

AuroraTec™ exterior weatherable rigid PVC compounds meet AAMA (American Architectural Manufacturers Association) standards for outdoor performance and are highly impact resistant. These compounds are available in powder or pellet form in various colors for application flexibility.

  • Highly versatile, our AuroraTec interior rigid PVC compounds can be used as stand-alone compounds or as structural substrates, along with capstock, in two-part systems for applications that require high weatherability. Either way, these compounds provide a wide processing window and excellent impact resistance.
  • AuroraTec PC/PET (polycarbonate/polyethylene terephthalate) also offers excellent mechanical, thermal and chemical properties, making it suitable for a wide range of military applications. They are also known for their durability and resistance to chemical, weather and UV exposure, making them suitable for harsh and demanding military environments.
  • AuroraTec TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) composites are thermoplastic elastomers consisting of linear segmented block copolymers composed of hard and soft segments. These TPU grades are fiberglass-reinforced at varying levels. The fiberglass reinforcement offers excellent stiffness and mechanical strength while maintaining excellent abrasion, chemical, and oil and grease resistance, with improved heat resistance over an unreinforced TPU.

Polymers in our AuroraGuard™ family are known for high-heat properties and durability in many applications.

  • AuroraGuard CPVC compounds are ideal in applications that require low smoke and high-heat performance. These include building and construction applications that require high temperature and/or flame performance and smoke ratings such as siding, windows, fences, electrical, custom extrusion, and custom injection molding.
  • AuroraGuard PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) is a thermoplastic semi-crystalline polymer and a type of polyester that provides high performance in demanding applications. It provides excellent chemical resistance, minimal shrinkage during forming, mechanical strength, and heat-resistance up to 150°C (or 200°C with glass-fiber reinforcement). It is ideal for many consumer applications, including showerheads and irons.
  • Our AuroraGuard PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) is an engineering polymer that is thermoplastic, semi-crystalline and a type of polyester. PBT provides excellent chemical resistance, shrinks very little during forming, is mechanically strong, heat-resistant up to 150°C (or 200°C with glass-fiber reinforcement), and can be treated with flame retardants to make it noncombustible. It is often used in automotive applications, including bumpers, tailgate outer panels and door handles.
  • AuroraGuard PEI (polyetherimide) compounds start from the base resin, amorphous polyetherimide, which is an amber-to-transparent thermoplastic with characteristics similar to the related, much more costly plastic PEEK. Our PEI compounds are inherently flame resistant and provide a high resistance to elevated temperatures and solvents. Compounds within the AuroraGuard™ PEI family provide high mechanical property performance in continuous use environments to 340°F (170°C). Their toughness and rigidity can be further enhanced with fiberglass reinforcement.

Other products for consumer applications include:

  • AuroraShield™ ASA (acrylonitrile styrene acrylic) is an amorphous resin designed to provide outstanding weather resistance. Similar to acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) in mechanical properties, ASA provides excellent ultraviolet (UV), water whitening and stress crack resistance. These grades exhibit low heat build-up, good flow, good aesthetics, impact strength, toughness, flame retardancy, dark color weatherability and a wide range of viscosities. This series also has recyclable and environmental-friendly products. It can be processed using compounding. AuroraShield ASA products comply with Food and Drug Administration (FDA), UL listed (UL 94), REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) and National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) standards.
  • Our Auroralite cellular foam rigid PVC products make an excellent wood replacement, combining the maintenance-free features of vinyl with the matte finish look of painted wood. They allow easy nailing and screwing, while providing mildew resistance, rot resistance and weight reduction properties. These compounds are highly recommended for decking applications.
  • AuroraFlex™ flexible PVC is a cost-effective alternative to our thermoplastic elastomers. These compounds provide flexible PVC from 35A to 95A Shore A durometer* to semi-rigid, with specific gravities ranging from 1.15 to 1.65. We use various types of compound additives to promote plasticity and flexibility to meet specific needs, such as renewable non-phthalate, improved low temperature tolerance and biocides. When you’re looking for a compound that offers high-abrasion resistance and excellent processing properties, AuroraFlex SL is designed to produce longer-lasting materials, with no tearing.
  • Unlike rigid PVC, AuroraFlex SBS and SEBS compounds utilize multiple TPE/TPR chemistries to impart high-performance properties for durability and easy processing. TPE options are available as low as 10A* up to 50D durometer hardness. Some of our TPEs are offered in clear, as well as oil free grades.
  • AuroraClean™ purge compounds are designed to clean all primary plastic machinery, including injection molding machines, blow molding machines and extruders, when changing color, resin or simply to remove black specks or contaminations.

Our experienced R&D team will work with you to develop a formulation that will meet your specific application needs. We are consistently recognized as best in class for our color development and production repeatability.

* NOTE: Durometer hardness is measured with a calibrated durometer using the Shore Type-A scale in a room of consistent temperature. The indenter is inserted for 15 seconds to determine if it passes the ASTM D2240-Durometer Hardness test for the desired durometer.
